Media malignancy

Something that Americans have known for years has again been confirmed by the recent Journolist disgrace. Ethical and objective media is on life support and many of today’s journalists are not worthy of the once-respected title.

Earning one’s letters in either journalism or communications does not a journalist make. Based upon the role of public guardianship in which America’s media have historically been morally tasked, there are other professional standards required.

Due to the nearly unfettered power of America’s "press" guaranteed by the Constitution, there are also moral and ethical standards which are essential to maintain integrity within the Fourth Estate whilst ensuring the public’s trust is not violated. Using the media bully pulpit to fabricate and then disseminate lies about people or groups simply because one doesn’t agree with them is neither journalism nor conscionable.

The 2008 presidential campaign shall forever be remembered as the tipping point when what was then known as Mainstream Media bared its biased soul and overtly aligned with the Left — publicly embracing ideology over ethics. In 2010, this media collusion is now generally acknowledged by all but the most radically progressive.

Mainstream America is currently expressing indignation over Journolist and its obvious links to a betrayal of the American people’s trust, and rightly so. But Journolist is neither a phenomenon nor recent trend. It is merely another rivulet of progressive bias stemming from a pervasive watercourse developed decades ago.

Media fail

Mainstream Media has mutated into State-run Media and to many in America, there is the perception that its ideological disingenuousness is now in some ways comparable to that of the Soviet Empire in its heyday.

In currying favor by dutifully carrying the Obama regime’s water, the state-run media that was supposed to keep the public informed instead attempts to keep the public either ignorant or misled.“Which is why, paradoxically, they can’t recognize their flaws — State-run Media is out of touch with Mainstream America.” This non-stop propagandizing has not gone unnoticed by a significant majority of Americans.

It is therefore no wonder that the print and electronic media sources which earn their pieces of silver shilling for the regime, Democrat Congress, and the statist agenda are suffering massive hemorrhages in lost circulation, viewership, and advertisement revenue.

Once near-ethical newspapers such as The New York Times, Washington Post, Los Angeles Times, and Boston Globe are in financial distress. Network outlets ABC, CBS, and NBC are struggling to maintain viewer ratings. Cable outlets CNN, CNBC, and MSNBC are routinely bludgeoned in ratings by the Fox News Channel. Yet they all equally face the same economy and evolving societal preferences. Why the disparity?

Pedantic managers, editors, and scribblers at state-run media outlets erroneously blame a bad economy and alternative news sources such as the Internet and talk radio, or demographics and societal change. And while the economy and alternatives certainly play a role, they serve as nothing more than symptoms of the disease — political bias and propagandized reporting — than as the cause.

The winds of change are noticeable. State-run Media are steadily becoming culturally irrelevant outside their own self-inflated spheres of eminence. There are tangible indications that this is so. Media is failing because there can be no relevant objectivity when living in a bubble.

Of bubbles, lies, and racism

Mind you, the liberals who comprise state-run media really do live in an artificial bubble, where whatever depth of thinking and reasoned analysis left to them are so shallowly based as to be insignificant. Their educational and professional backgrounds are no longer relevant because they have been purposely misguided by their academic and editorial mentors."There is now dwindling traction for such journalistic bias in Mainstream America today, where words still have real meaning that translate into real consequences." Ethics, morality, and objectivity are no longer paramount tenets of modern journalism.

Which is why, paradoxically, they can’t recognize their own serious flaws. State-run media is out of touch with Mainstream America.

A few years back, the B2J warned of a coming state-run media bombardment of racism — all those opposed to the socialization of America by the Obama regime and Democrat Congress would be labeled as racist. Watch TV, read a newspaper (if you can stomach it) — it has come to pass. This is what state-run media now attempts to pawn off as ethical journalism.

Integrity and intellectual honesty have been discarded as rubbish, now replaced with calculated invectives such as "racist" or "sexist" as themes to tarnish or destroy those with ideological differences.

However, the problem state-run media faces is that such sordid allegations no longer resonate as well outside the protective bubble as they once did. There is now dwindling traction for such journalistic bias in Mainstream America today, where words still have real meaning that translate into real consequences.

Heeding the master’s voice

Even after outing themselves during the 2008 campaign and its aftermath, many journalists foolishly continue to deny the liberal bias that taints their profession. Many imperiously"It has become obvious to Mainstream America that state-run media does the bidding of its political masters." subscribe to the notion that the American public is too stupid and far too banal to figure things out for themselves. For their own good, the unwashed masses must be coerced and manipulated into accepting fabrication as truth.

The press (now construed to mean all forms of journalistic media) is the only private-sector entity specifically referenced in the Constitution, and whose freedom of expression is guaranteed. As such, the journalistic ethos that includes objectivity and fairness must be strong influences on the profession, else the very real power derived from such mandated protection can be corrupted to do grave harm. We now know this to be true.

It has become obvious to Mainstream America that state-run media does the bidding of its political masters. As far as the tens of millions of concerned Americans critical of the Obama regime and thus now labeled by state-run media as "racists," here’s what President Theodore Roosevelt had to say:

“The President is merely the most important among a large number of public servants. He should be supported or opposed exactly to the degree which is warranted by his good conduct or bad conduct, his efficiency or inefficiency in rendering loyal, able, and disinterested service to the Nation as a whole.

Therefore it is absolutely necessary that there should be full liberty to tell the truth about his acts, and this means that it is exactly necessary to blame him when he does wrong as to praise him when he does right. Any other attitude in an American citizen is both base and servile.

To announce that there must be no criticism of the President, or that we are to stand by the President, right or wrong, is not only unpatriotic and servile, but is morally treasonable to the American public. Nothing but the truth should be spoken about him or any one else. But it is even more important to tell the truth, pleasant or unpleasant, about him than about any one else.”

Journalism without credibility or ethics is no longer journalism — it is propaganda.
