We Americans must never base our politics on heroes. Our country was founded on a proposition, not on personage. The great George Washington knew this and acted swiftly to thwart hero-worship. Our politics should reflect great ideas, not personalities.

Sarah Palin, the GOP’s former vice-presidential candidate star, is shining a good deal more brightly these days, especially when endorsing candidates. Union boss Richard Trumpka is learning that starlight can burn you, and that Mama Grizzlies have teeth.
A few purists reading this may not agree with every belief expressed by its youthful author, but I suspect that most of you will applaud and deeply appreciate his courage and forthrightness — even more so after hearing him speak his heart-felt convictions:
